Intelligence
Bill Is Signed In Washington:
But Shouldn't Each American
Household
Have Its Own Intelligence Czar?
GROUND
ZERO PLUS 1193 DAYS,--New York, NY, Saturday,
December 18, 2004--President
Bush signed an intelligence bill today, designed to shore up
America's early warning systems in an attempt to thwart the
next Terrorist attack.
Ironically,
the nation sighed as the President signed the bill.
Americans
continue to extol government as the source of primary defense
against Terrorism, when the true early warning system is the
front door of the more than 100 million households.
President
Bush signs the intelligence overhaul bill into law at
a ceremony on Friday.
Currently,
the Administration is looking for an intelligence czar to head
up the hunt for "future terrorists," on the assumption
that the "eye" of the pyramid can see more clearly
than its base and all the stones that comprise it.
Terrorism
attacks at the grass roots level, and yet Americans are suckers
when it comes to shucking personal responsibility and duty to
defend themselves. They clapped as the President signed the
bill, as though the ink from his pen might blot out the Damocles
Sword hanging over the 35,000 communities that represent the
neighborhood networks of the American culture.
Government
is signalling the American public that the true Intelligence
Chief is the head of each U.S. household
Once again,
the President's Intelligence Bill is not so smart, not so intelligent.
Some might consider it down right stupid.
Just the
other day a piece of luggage with a dummy bomb slipped through
screeners at Newark Airport and ended up flying in the belly
of a jet all the way to a European destination.
In addition,
the President recently foisted a candidate to head up Homeland
Security only to end up dumping the prospect because "intelligence"
found the man selected for the job had a couple of mistresses,
dealt with potential mob bosses, and had illegal aliens working
for him.
A
fleet of taxis with trunks loaded full of fertilizer and
ammonia could rip holes in Manhattan in the blink of an
eye
Government,
through endless errors, is signaling the American public that
the true Intelligence Chief is the head of each U.S. household,
not some "czar" trying to get the FBI, CIA, NSA and
a host of other agencies to meld data so that they can predict
the next Terrorist attack.
I liken
the process to New York City taxi cabs.
In the
city, there are more than 11,000 cabs, mostly driven by people
from the Middle East. A fleet of taxis with trunks loaded full
of fertilizer and ammonia could rip holes in Manhattan in the
blink of an eye.
Those
who applauded the signing of the Intelligence Bill need
to take Right Actions
Certainly,
there is some value to having the top level of American security
with its eyes open, but to stop Terrorism at the top is as fallacious
as stopping the suicide car bombs in Iraq. The Terrorists continually
blow up the same entrance despite all the safeguards.
Complacency,
the key element in Terrorism's Triad of Fear, Intimidation and
Complacency, seems to dominate the American mind set.
Those who
applauded the signing of the Intelligence Bill and haven't yet
signed the Pledge of Vigilance need to stop clapping.
Only when
we assume the duty to protect our families from harm will the
real Terrorism be stopped.
